DECEMBER VIEWS

"We need quiet time to examine our lives openly and honestly . . . spending quiet time alone gives your mind an opportunity to renew itself and create order."
--S.L. Taylor--

Sharing the Inspiration: Last December, I shared daily photos instead of words to chronicle my shift into the Winter season. I was originally inspired by this talented photographer...who used the month before her birthday to follow her life through images alone, starting here. Now, another amazing writer/photographer/jewelry designer has decided to offer her December this year to images--inspired, in part, by my quiet month last year. This is one of those things about blogging I love, how ideas get exchanged--how inspiration is contagious and offered freely to anyone who happens by. I have decided to join her and again share my days (mostly) through photos alone this month...I am not a photographer, so this exercise becomes for me about letting myself make mistakes--about using my sight and not my words to communicate.

The truth is, big things have been happening in my life...ones I am not able to venture into in this online space of mine. The quiet will allow me, as in the quote above, "to examine my life openly and honestly" in the hopes that, yes, I too will find renewal. This morning, I woke to sleet and ice gently covering everything. Except for the tapping of the crystals against the ground, it was completely silent while I stood there, mug of tea in hand--watching the blue jays and blackbirds stealing seeds from the neighbor's yard. In the dog's water bowl, a thick chunk of ice and one fallen leaf...in this life of mine, wise words, like those of my dear teacher, "Watch yourself. Every minute we change. It is a great opportunity. At any point, we can step out of our frozen selves and our ideas and begin fresh." For me, this beginning is now.

I decided to join the silent blogging movement after reading about it at Daisies. I'll miss your words and insights for the month but I'll enjoy your vision.

What an image to start with ~ truly startling! Like the commenter above, I'll miss your words, but by now I know your images do go a long to making up for withdrawl to your words...

Thinking of you xox

i had to go back and look at your photo again, when you said that it was a dog's bowl. it's funny...i think so often in images, and yet get tripped up by them...a close-up of a woman's hip, for example, or the bend of a knee, could always be something else..IS something else, in the moment before it is "properly identified".

i think that is what i will so enjoy about this movement of december in 'visual'...watching how words and ideas and community intersect and explode in gorgeous portraits of life.

can i add my voice to the ones who are saying that they will miss your words? but at the same time, i will enjoy coming here for your pictures...lovely delia, you make me rethink things, every time i come here (which is way more often then i comment, for some reason).

i will try and change that...as liz says so perfectly, your space here allows deep breaths to come into my heart.

I look forward to your "visions". I've also undergone some change - mostly in perspective. I feel excited and brave and . . . just tickled pink.

I hope the big things going on in your life are good things! As always, I look forward to seeing the world through your eyes.

And forgive my unrelated question: will you be at AWP this year in NYC?
