DELIGHT

Petunia wanted a sister so badly...this is a fact I must remind her of often now that the sister is here and nearly three years old with a tendency to get into her lip gloss and homework papers (and sometimes both at the same time). This picture captures her pure delight just moments after Rosie's birth. I hadn't noticed the tear on her cheek until I was recently going through old photos. It makes my heart catch, just seeing it.

Most pictures of the boy-o from the same event show him sprawled out on the bed asleep and one with him in the midwife's lap with a drowsy smile across his lips. This would be a pretty classic response from him. But, Petunia had her whole soul staked on "the baby being a sister". Raising two girls has been a delight for me...even if the one is smarter than I am and the other claims to be neither boy nor girl with fierce fondness for both princess dresses and mud. This image shows the moment my two daughters first met...sisters as strangers on a soft summer night.

This week's theme at Mamasaysom.com is "Delight"...read entries there and share in the joy.
