DOLLHOUSE in WINTER: A self-portrait
Where I begin to wonder if it is as cold for the people who live in my daughter's dollhouse as it is for us...wind pressing against our walls, creaking and whistling Winter complaints, wearing my hat even indoors because I am unable to find warmth...watching my black lab as he circles the floor and tries to wedge his body into a sliver of sunlight. The dollhouse, where I have been thinking of someone I love who has health issues today...where I have been hibernating and contentedly writing in my notebook while my little one acts out countless life and death dramas inside the pink plastic walls.

Oh, this picture and those words. You can see that you're somewhere else, miles away, lost in thought. I hope the sunlight reaches you all soon.
And thank you for your kind and sensitive words on my portrait :)
Beautiful picture and beautiful words.
It's cold here too, and our heating hasn't worked for three days (no hot water either) brrr... I hope you get warm soon.
It's so cold here too....your words here are so lovely. It makes my mind wander to think of little cold dolls....your eyes look so lovely.
I'm ready for spring. And the end of drama!
beautiful picture of your soulful face, as ever. love the way your mouth is turned towards the camera(to speak? to kiss?) but your eyes are turned away... such subtle conflict...
thinking of you today, sweetness.
love x x x
What a beautiful portrait and post - both so lovely and thoughtful!
i love this image of you, staring dreamily off to somewhere fantastic, such a beautiful dreamy look ...
sending you 'warm' thoughts :)
Melba: "energy is everywhere"...I love this.
Jamie: Thank you as well!
Waspgoddess: I hope you get warm yourself! No heat? Oh my...
Kristen: the way you put it, "little cold dolls" really gets me thinking too...
Loralee: Ditto.
bb: conflict about describes it...thank you for the compliment--this portrait was a little bit naked for me, no makeup whatsoever...and I started wondering later why I'd posted it on the Internet!
Deb: Thanks...
Daisies: I appreciate your warm thoughts!
I've got the opposite problem - it's terribly hot and humid with no refrigerated escape in sight.
I love how you paint these images. Visiting your blog always puts me in the mood for writing in a journal on the balcony. I am inspired by your words the way I am after reading a great book...
BTW, your kids are so lovely!
your photo fits perfectly with your words. Your eyes speak volumes.
It is so cold here, the sun shines but I cannot feel the heat... it will pass, it always does! xoxo
first off - i didn't know you had a dog - after all this time - we have to work on our communication ;-)
you are beautiful in this picture, the writer with her muse, the mama with here duties, the soul sending healing thoughts to others... xo
Beautiful you.
I also hate the cold. My feet just can't seem to get warm...We are looking at houses in our market here. I keep being drawn to the old ones. The ones with spirit in the walls...But then I remember all the old places we lived, and how cold it gets! Hmm...
:)

Lovely "dollhouse" portrait, both the image and the words. Hope it warms up for you soon and that your loved one's health improves. xo
You are ravishing!
XOXO Darlene
Ali: come July I'll be deep in the "problem" of summer, but for now--it's all wishful thinking.
Misty: thank you so much for the compliment...
Susannah: whoops, yes--I have a six-year-old lab, named Angus...
Amber: old houses have so much character--it's almost worth the cold feet, right?
Cynthia: looking forward to the swap!
Paris Parfait: Thank you for the kind wishes for health...
Darlene: You would know ravishing!
thank you for your sweet wishes, friend.
i love this black and white of you. sometimes i lay on the floor with my children's toys around me....there's something peaceful and comforting about it.
Beautiful photo and words, Delia.
I hate winter ... I'm ready for warm weather.
Fantastic photo of you. Captures the mood you eloquently express with soft alliteration and reflection.
Your writing is a pleasure to read.
Using the dollhouse as "your cave" is done creatively here.
